Coach Porter joined the Monarch coaching staff in January 2008. Porter comes to Valley College after spending the 2007 season at arch rival L.A. Pierce College as the offensive coordinator. There Porter guided the Brahma's offense to a #5 ranking in the Western States Conference in 07, after finishing at the very bottom of the conference the previous season. Porter's effort also helped the program rebound from a 1-9 campaign in 06, to a 5-5 season in 07, the programs first non-losing season since 1989. His offense featured 5 all Western States Conference performers, including 2007 conference player of the year QB Alex Pettee (Toledo).
Prior to L.A. Pierce, coach Porter served as the offensive coordinator at Culver City H.S. from 04-06. In his final season, Porter's offense was the most prolific in the state of California, averaging more than 500 ypg (529), and just over 45 ppg (46.5). That offense featured California state passing leader Darius Banks (Eastern Washington) who threw for over 4,000 yards and 51 td's.
Coach Porter comes from 9 years of professional football experience in the Arena Football League. He also comes from a two year stay at the Community College level (Palomar C.C.), and feels very strongly about the Community College system. "Whether It's giving a student athlete a second chance to compete academically, or to develop athletically, J.C. football is a tremendous opportunity for kids to pursue their dreams a little further".
Porter is a disciplinarian who believes in hard work and accountability, and believes that those who excel in both will not only exceed in football, "but in life as well".
