Reggie Reed: Athletic Academic Counselor

Reggie Reed is a full-time counselor assigned to the athletic department.  His is committed to the goal of giving each student-athlete the best possible education Valley College has to offer while helping prepare them to move to a four year institution.  "Every student-athlete faces challenges many other students never encounter," Reed explains. "Dedication to their sport as well as academics can be very stressful.  My goal is to assist them in every way, empowering them with the self-confidence needed to strive toward their goals."

As a counselor, Reed's job covers a wide area and includes advising students on their curriculum, presenting career academics and transfer eligibility, and discussing NCAA requirements.  During the semester, he will keep a watchful eye on the students, making sure each is enrolled in the required 12­ - 18 units while maintaining the appropriate grade point average.  When necessary, Mr. Reed will meet with an instructor to guarantee the student's success.  He is constantly available to assist the students when questions arise.  Mr. Reed is a dedicated individual who believes that each football athlete must upgrade academics as a top priority, so that the collegiate experience at Valley College is a success.

Athlete's Checklist  

1. Complete a Los Angeles Valley College application.

2. Send or bring high school or prior college transcripts to LAVC, in care of the Transcripts Department. Bring another set of transcripts to the academic advisor.

3. Take assessment test.

4. Obtain counseling appointment with athletic counselor.

5. Meet with academic advisor to plan program. Do Student Educational Plan.

6. If applying for individual aid, make an appointment with a financial aid counselor.

7. Complete the phone registration.

8. Keep a copy of class schedule.
