Athletics Study Hall 2007

Study Hall Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

The Athletics Study Hall is located next to Ethel Avenue inside bungalow #76A.

The Athletics Study Hall provides a structured learning environment with computers and study tables for student-athletes to independently work on homework assignments and reports . Each computer is linked to the Internet and hosts a selection of software programs. Computers, monitors, and printers are available to maintain a quality learning environment. A study hall supervisor will monitor each teams’ attendance, assist with various sign-ups for tutoring, and answer questions.

For the athletic study hall to be successful a supervisor will be appointed to keep accurate reports of study hall attendance for head coaches. The study hall is to be treated as a quiet environment conducive to study, learning, tutoring, and research. It is not designed for socialization with peers, fun, or game playing

It is mandatory that the head coach completes the attendance excel sheet (obtainable at www.lavc.edu/athletics/studyhallattendancesheet.xls). Fill out your roster for study hall. Once the head coach has completed the study hall attendance roster, print a final copy and turn it in to the supervisors’ mail box located in the Physical Education/Athletic office. Each head coach must prepare typed rosters in alphabetical order and complete the following information:

1. Name of the sport
2. Name of head coach
3. Schedule of practice times
4. Game schedule for the semester
5. Cell phone number
6. Home telephone number of head coach
7. Typed & alphabetized players on the roster form at the beginning of each semester

Head coaches: Do not handwrite the roster of your athletes. It is imperative that semester rosters are filled out similar to the college website excel worksheet. By filling out this excel template for your team, confusion will be eliminated when attendance is taken by the study hall supervisor. At the conclusion of each Thursday the study hall supervisor will drop the attendance folder in the mailbox of each head coach.

Attendance Sheets & Green Folder:
All freshmen, first-time transfer students, and student-athletes whose cumulative grade-point average is below a 2.0 and/or under the required 12 units within the spring or fall are required to attend the following schedule for study hall per week.

1.99 GPA – 1.0 GPA and/or under 12 units spring/fall = 4 hours per week of study hall

Under 1.0 GPA and/or under 12 semester = 6 hours per week of study hall

Special Study Hall Hours: Student/Athletes that utilize various on-campus resources (math labs, the writing center, tutoring center) may count toward study hall hours with the proper documentation and consent of the study hall supervisor. In order to receive credit, an athlete must check in with the study hall supervisor before attending his tutoring session. After the tutoring is completed, each student must show documentation of hours spent in the tutoring session along with a signature of the tutor.

Student–athletes who fail to comply with study hall rules and regulations will receive a negative evaluation which can result in suspensions from the head coach, one on one parent meetings, or expulsion from the team.

Credo: As a Monarch, I realize that I must conduct myself in a manner which does not in any way detract from the accomplishments of my teammates, my athletic department, my college, or myself. I expect student-athletes from all athletic teams to act in the same manner. I realize that my failure to follow these guidelines may result in disciplinary actions by my coach and/or the LAVC athletic department.
